Dear Delegates and Sponsors,
On behalf of the International Relations Organization at the University of Virginia, I am both pleased and proud to invite you to attend the 30th session of Virginia Model United Nations. Since its inception in 1945, the United Nations has been entrusted with the vital mission of protecting and promoting international peace and security around the world. VAMUN has been honored for nearly thirty years to give hundreds of young people the opportunity to transform those ideals from abstractions to realities.
The 21st century has brought us new challenges, but also a new generation of future leaders, ready to assume both the burdens and the benefits of life in a globalized society. Model United Nations allows students to directly engage themselves and their peers by immersing themselves in diplomacy, using creativity and compromise to learn how to change the world for the better.
Few places could be better suited to the study of diplomacy than the University of Virginia. Founded by Thomas Jefferson to champion what he called “the illimitable freedom of the human mind,” the University has been host to many of the world’s finest political minds, and VAMUN delegates will have the opportunity to continue in their tradition as they spend a weekend exploring the school. Hosting our conference at UVA, rather than at a hotel or conference center, allows delegates to not only see a more intellectually diverse view of college than any tour could provide, but also allows them to connect with our nation’s past as they work to solve the problems of the future.
VAMUN XXX will feature a dynamic roster of 20+ committees, covering a wide array of both historical and current events. It will also challenge delegates to confront issues from all corners of the globe. As Secretary-General of VAMUN XXX, I am more than happy to answer any questions that may arise during the planning process, and I look forward to welcoming you to Charlottesville in November for an unforgettable weekend.
Sincerely,
Andrew Koch
Secretary-General
VAMUN XXX
